Well, you'll be happy to know that it really isn't necessary to buy a whole new trade show booth. You can fix up the old one in no time flat AND with little pain to your bottom line.

One of the first things you can do to spruce up that old trade show booth you have is to buy or plan on renting some nice palm plants or other large plants to put out front. Plants and greenery not only help disguise some of the booth's wear and tear, they create an extremely inviting and welcoming environment. The really great thing is that most convention centers and exhibit sites have greenery available for you to rent which saves you a great deal of money in shipping and freight charges-not to mention the wear and tear on your back!

Another inexpensive way to perk up a tired-looking trade show booth is to get some new graphics and visuals for it. Most trade show booths are configured so that the panels in them can easily exchange one set of visuals for another. It isn't necessary to change them all, either. Just by changing a couple or even one panel, you can create an entirely different look.

Better yet, if you can't afford new panels for your trade show booth, you can have patches made that you can place on top of old visuals and images to cover old messages that are no longer valid or to replace old information with new information. Patching is a simple, inexpensive technique that can allow you to make big changes for just a little, um, change.

While you're at it, look into buying some cool spotlights or track lights for your trade show booth too. Why? Again, these are great for camouflaging signs of wear and tear. Using lights to spotlight just one new panel on your trade show booth, for example, creates a focal point for your booth so that people's eyes are drawn to that-and away from the places you don't want them to notice as much. Lights can also be used to just make your booth more cheerful and upbeat. If you haven't used them in the past and start using them now to automatically update the look of your trade show booth.

Here are some example pictures of our lower end booth and booths from our competitors of the same size.

Note that our booth stands out more from the crowd, the booths around used a generic red design to fit the theme of the show. Same goes for our competitors, they all look rather generic and similar to the surrounding booths.

All three booths would generate roughly the same results, but in the end our was around 30% cheaper, using a novel hand crafted wooden design while the others went for the standard cardboard and plastic ones.

Our booths are always reusable as well. These booths are around 6x3 m which is on the smaller end, we can of course do bigger ones with a higher impact.

26 – 29 NOVEMBER 2020 | SHANGHAI WORLD EXPO EXHIBITION AND CONVENTION CENTRE

April 2020 – Design Shanghai, Asia’s unmissable design show, will now take place  in November in response to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, allowing greater flexibility and opportunity for both exhibitors and visitors all over the world who are planning to visit the show.  

Design Shanghai 2020 fair will run from 26 – 29 November 2020 while the venue will remain the same, the landmark Shanghai World Exhibition and Convention Centre in the Pudong District of Shanghai.

In the meantime, Design Shanghai will continue to support and engage the design community, both in China and internationally, launching a digital programme to connect with its global partners and supporters.  Later on in May Design Shanghai will again partner on XTD with two weeks of design activity taking place throughout Shanghai.

DIGITAL FORUM SERIES LAUNCHES IN MAY

While there will be no physical fair in May, Design Shanghai is curating a special programme of digital events and initiatives, partnering with internationally renowned designers and brands on its social channels. The new digital programme will debut on May 1^st with the Digital Design Forum Talks series.

Globally renowned designers such as Michael Young, Kelly Hoppen and Andre Fu will take part in Instagram Live interviews each Friday in May, allowing exclusive access to its worldwide design community who will be able to ask questions of these designers in real time. In addition to Instagram, Design Shanghai will publish news on other highly popular social channels in Asia including Wechat, Weibo, Yizhibo and Tik Tok, as well as Facebook and Twitter, which has over 373,000 followers in total.  Design Shanghai will also continue to communicate news about the forthcoming show through its regular newsletters which go to over 200,000 subscribers all over the world.

XINTIANDI DESIGN FESTIVAL (25 MAY – 8 JUNE)

The theme of this year’s Xintiandi Festival, which will run from 25^th May – 8^th June, was chosen before the global crisis created by COVID-19 but is now particularly timely and relevant.  For 2020, the Festival will focus on the link between people and how they connect with one another.  Designers have been briefed to realise the theme of ‘Together!’ and how communities can interact with each other within a rich and productive dialogue.

Design Shanghai’s sister show, Design China Beijing, will take place from 24 – 27 September at the National Agricultural Exhibition Centre.  As in previous years, it will again showcase some of China’s most exciting brands as well as the latest products from leading global design brands across three design halls: Contemporary, Classic & Luxury and Accessories & Objects.
